Quoted per m² and per box
Tiles ship in full boxes, and the m² per box differs by product. The quotation states the price basis (per m², box or piece) and the packing, so check the box count against your area.

A 4.2 m × 3.6 m room is 15.12 m². With 60 × 60 cm tiles (0.36 m² each) in a straight layout, add 10%: 16.632 m². 16.632 ÷ 0.36 = 46.2, so you need 47 tiles. At 4 tiles per box that is 12 boxes: 48 tiles covering 17.28 m².
A 15 ft × 12 ft room is 180 sq ft (16.72 m²). With 60 × 120 cm tiles (about 23.6 × 47.2 in, 7.75 sq ft each) in a brick layout, add 12%: 201.6 sq ft. 201.6 ÷ 7.75 = 26.01, so you need 27 tiles. At 2 tiles per box that is 14 boxes: 28 tiles covering 217.0 sq ft.
Reference
Coverage per tile is exact. Tiles per box are typical for Indian export packing and change with thickness and factory, so your quotation states the packing for each product.

Weights are estimates from thickness (about 2.3 kg per m² per mm for vitrified and porcelain bodies, 2 for ceramic). Large slabs usually ship in crates, not boxes.
Wastage
Extra covers cut tiles at the edges, breakage in transit and on site, and a few spares. These are common planning allowances. Your installer may advise more for small rooms with many cuts.
| Layout | Extra to add | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Straight grid | 10% | Joints line up. Cuts only at the edges of the room. |
| Brick / offset | 10–15% | Each row is shifted, so more rows end in a cut tile. |
| Diagonal (45°) | 15% | Every edge tile is cut on the angle. |
| Herringbone / chevron | 15–20% | Many angled cuts along every edge. |
| Spares for repairs | +5% | Keep a few boxes from the same shade lot. A later order may not match. |
For importers and project buyers
Once you know your area, these points decide how the order is quoted, packed and shipped.
Tiles ship in full boxes, and the m² per box differs by product. The quotation states the price basis (per m², box or piece) and the packing, so check the box count against your area.
Tiles are dense, so a 20′ container usually reaches its weight limit before it is full. The calculator estimates weight from thickness. The real quantity per container is worked out per product and confirmed in the loading plan.
If your order fills part of a container, you can add other sizes or designs. We can combine products from several of our manufacturing partners in one container, subject to each product’s MOQ and the loading plan.
For some products, a trial order or project lot smaller than a container may be possible. A part-load usually costs more per m². Tell us the quantity and destination and we will say honestly whether it is practical.
Order the full quantity, extra and spares together. Cartons from one production lot share the same shade and calibre, and the codes are printed on each carton.
Area or boxes per product, tile size, finish, destination port and preferred Incoterm. The RFQ guide lists the rest, and the packing guide explains pallets and loading.
FAQ
Measure the length and width of each area and multiply them, then add the areas together and subtract openings. Add extra for cuts and breakage (about 10% for a straight layout). Divide by the area of one tile and round up. Then divide by the number of tiles per box and round up to whole boxes.
100 sq ft is 9.29 m². With 60 × 60 cm tiles (about 24 × 24 in), that is 25.8 tiles without extra. With 10% extra you need 29 tiles, which is 8 boxes of 4. With 30 × 60 cm tiles (about 12 × 24 in) and 10% extra you need 57 tiles, or 10 boxes of 6.
One 60 × 60 cm tile covers 0.36 m², so one square metre takes 2.78 tiles. A box of 4 covers 1.44 m² (15.5 sq ft). For 60 × 120 cm tiles it is 1.39 tiles per m², and for 80 × 80 cm tiles it is 1.56.
It depends on the size, thickness and factory. Typical Indian export packing is 4 tiles per box for 60 × 60 cm, 2 for 60 × 120 cm, 3 for 80 × 80 cm and 6 for 30 × 60 cm wall tiles. The packing for each product is stated in the quotation and printed on the carton.
Add about 10% for a straight layout, 10–15% for a brick or offset layout, about 15% for a diagonal layout and 15–20% for herringbone or chevron. Consider another 5% as spares for future repairs. Rooms with many corners and large-format tiles may need more, so ask your installer.
Tiles from different production runs can differ slightly in shade and size (calibre). Buying the full quantity, including extra and spares, from one lot keeps the floor or wall consistent. This matters most for imports, because a top-up order can take weeks to arrive and may not match.
Divide square feet by 10.764 to get square metres, or multiply square metres by 10.764 to get square feet. For example, 500 sq ft is 46.45 m², and 50 m² is 538.2 sq ft. The calculator converts automatically when you switch between metres and feet.
It depends on the tile’s thickness and packing, because a container usually reaches its weight limit before it is full. As a rough planning figure, 9 mm tiles weigh about 20.7 kg per m², so a 25,000 kg payload is about 1,207 m² of 60 × 60 cm tiles. 20 mm outdoor pavers weigh over twice as much per m², so far fewer fit. The real quantity per product, or per mix of products, is confirmed in the quotation and loading plan.
Measure the width of each wall and the height you will tile, and multiply them. Add the walls together, then subtract each door, window or fixed item (width × height). In the calculator, use “Subtract an opening” to take these away from the total.
It is a planning estimate. The final quantity depends on the exact packing of the product you choose, your installer’s layout and site conditions. Use “Request a quote for this quantity” to send your figures to us; packing, weight, MOQ and container loading are confirmed in the quotation.
Send your area, tile size and destination. We come back with suitable options from our manufacturing partners in India, with packing, MOQ and container loading confirmed at quotation.
