Kitchen floor and backsplash tiles, previewed at real size

Try 19 floor tiles and 17 backsplash tiles in an open kitchen with a long worktop and an island. Compare a narrow zellige-look tile with a larger marble-look tile, see how the grout lines read at worktop height, then take the design into 3D.

Before you choose

Tile selection considerations for a kitchen

Points to check with your supplier and installer. The preview cannot answer them.

  1. Spills on the floorVerify

Kitchen floors get wet and greasy. Slip ratings are not listed for these demonstration products, so confirm the slip rating for your project at quotation.

  2. Stains and cleaningVerify

Ask for the stain-resistance class and cleaning guidance of the tile you shortlist. Neither is listed for the demonstration products.

  3. Heat behind the hob

Check the hob and hood maker’s clearance requirements and your local building rules for the wall behind a cooktop. The tile, adhesive and grout should suit that position.

  4. Grout colour

A mid-grey or darker grout shows less staining on a backsplash than a bright white one. Grout type and colour are your installer’s call; the preview uses an illustrative grout.

  5. Cut-outs and edges

Sockets, window reveals and the end of the worktop need cuts and edge trims. Smaller formats cut around these more easily; large formats show fewer joints.
