Glazed vitrified tiles are the format many buyers first meet when sourcing from India: digitally printed designs on a dense vitrified body, from mirror-polished marbles to quiet matt stones. We offer options from several manufacturing partners and confirm the specification before anything is ordered.
The material
GVT (glazed vitrified tile) is a tile with a dense, vitrified body and a digitally printed glaze on top. PGVT is the polished version: a thicker glaze layer is ground and polished to a high-gloss, mirror-like surface. Because the body is vitrified, these tiles are typically low in water absorption, and many are sold internationally as glazed porcelain.
“GVT” and “PGVT” are trade terms widely used in India. Export buyers often know the same products as glazed porcelain or polished glazed porcelain. The label matters less than the tested specification: water absorption, finish, calibre and shade consistency. Verify classification wording against partner factory test reports
You may also see related Indian terms such as double charge, full body and soluble salt vitrified tiles. These describe different ways of colouring the body or surface. Tell us which you are comparing and we will check what our manufacturing partners can offer.

Formats & finishes
GVT and PGVT are produced in a wide range of designs. These are the formats and finishes buyers most often ask about; each design is confirmed with the manufacturer.

Specification checklist
High-gloss glazes look spectacular in a sample box and very different across a 2,000 m² floor. These are the points we confirm with the manufacturer before you commit.
| Specification | Why it matters | Typical / status |
|---|---|---|
| Water absorption | Confirms the body is vitrified and how the tile can be classified. | To be confirmed |
| Glaze / polish quality | Check for pinholes, waviness and reflection quality on PGVT. | To be confirmed |
| Calibre and rectification | Large polished tiles show uneven edges and joints quickly. | To be confirmed |
| Shade and batch | Digital designs have several faces; agree how many and how they are mixed. | To be confirmed |
| Thickness | Varies by format and factory; affects weight and freight. | To be confirmed |
| Slip resistance | Polished glazes are slippery when wet — specify where needed. | To be confirmed |
| Packing and m² per box | Corner protection matters for polished edges. | To be confirmed |
| MOQ and lead time | Set per design and production schedule. | To be confirmed |

FAQ
Both have a vitrified body with a printed glaze. PGVT (polished glazed vitrified tile) has a thicker glaze that is polished to a high-gloss, mirror-like finish. GVT covers the unpolished glazed versions, from glossy to matt and textured.
Many glazed vitrified tiles have water absorption low enough to be classified as porcelain and are sold internationally as glazed porcelain. It depends on the product, so we confirm the tested water absorption for each tile you shortlist.
PGVT is widely used on interior floors such as living areas, lobbies and showrooms. Polished surfaces can be slippery when wet, so they are generally not chosen for bathrooms, entrances or outdoor areas. Choose a matt or textured finish where slip resistance matters.
The most common formats are 600 × 600, 800 × 800, 600 × 1200 and 1000 × 1000 mm, with 800 × 1600 mm and larger produced by some manufacturers. We confirm the exact sizes available for each design at quotation.
Ask for tiles from a single batch for each area, and agree the shade and calibre references before dispatch. See our guide to evaluating samples, calibre, shade and packaging.
